The Boyne Foundation has donated more than $500,000 to the 91制片厂 Foundation 鈥 the largest gift ever made to the 91制片厂 Foundation 鈥 to help students pay for college.

The donation will be used to establish an endowed scholarship fund, known as the Boyne Family Scholarship Fund, that will benefit students enrolled in 91制片厂鈥檚 Nursing program.

鈥淭he Boyne Foundation鈥檚 generosity and longtime support of 91制片厂 makes a huge difference in allowing our students to achieve their goals and pursue their dreams,鈥 said 91制片厂 President Ron Cantor. 鈥淭his gift shows the Boyne family鈥檚 confidence in our college, our students and the 91制片厂 Foundation.鈥

The Boyne Foundation is a family-run nonprofit charitable organization whose mission is to provide scholarships for future healthcare providers. It was founded by the late Dr. Philip Boyne, a native of Houlton who attended Colby College and became an accomplished oral surgeon and research scientist at Loma Linda University.

鈥淭he Boyne family has been funding nursing scholarships at 91制片厂 for the past nine years,鈥 said John Boyne, son of Philip Boyne. 鈥淥ur donation to the 91制片厂 Foundation provides a permanent fund for future nursing students. The 91制片厂 Foundation has many grants for students in other excellent programs, and we hope that our gift may encourage others to consider similar grants to help future students.鈥

Prior to the Boyne Foundation鈥檚 donation of $503,600, the largest gift to the 91制片厂 Foundation came from the estate of Franklin Talbot, a Portland college librarian who bequeathed about $263,000 to the foundation upon his death in 2014.

The 91制片厂 Foundation is an independent, nonprofit foundation that raises money from businesses, civic groups, community leaders and individuals for academic programs, classrooms and equipment, and scholarships for deserving students. People can support the Foundation by calling the Foundation office at 741-5559 or through its website, www.smccME.edu/foundation.
